The Piedmont—literally meaning "foot of the mountain"—is bounded on the west by the Blue Ridge. To the east, the hills gracefully roll toward the fall lines of the Potomac and Rappahannock Rivers.

Jefferson, Madison, Monroe—these Founding Fathers called the Piedmont home. During the Civil War some of the most critical battles happened here, further forging the nation.

Today, despite immense pressures of recent growth, the region remains much as it was 300 years ago when first settled by English colonists.

This characteristic natural beauty and the lifestyles defined by this unique landscape attract not only visitors and weekenders. More, people who can afford to live anywhere in the world make Virginia's northern Piedmont their permanent new home.
